About the Needham Coalition for Suicide Prevention
Suicide is a major health problem for people of all ages. The
Needham Coalition for Suicide Prevention was organized in May of
2006 as a community response to the deaths by suicide of four young
people over the previous eighteen-month period. It is a broad
based coalition of 38 members reaching out to
our town’s diverse constituencies across the age continuum. We
believe that suicide is preventable if we work together.
The Coalition has utilized the public health model and proven
ways to prevent suicide; and we combined these methods with what
we know about Needham as a community to implement initiatives and
make recommendations. While we have accomplished much,
we plan to continue work on our goals, evaluate
our actions, sustain our effective initiatives, and broaden our
advocacy and actions to every segment of our community.
